System Administration Senior Specialist

Koç University Information Technology Directorate will be hiring a System Administration Senior Specialist mainly responsible for all KU IT services with the below mentioned qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field
• Minimum 6 years of System Administration or related experience is a must
• An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience
• Demonstrated ability to translate user requests; provide technical support; provide documentation and training, work independently on assigned projects, and develop effective working relationships with various levels of IT and Non-IT personnel
• Skill in using and managing computers and Microsoft office Applications and Software
• Thorough knowledge of performance monitoring, system testing, and software patch installation and testing; data security, backup, recovery, and restart techniques; maintaining, installing, monitoring and performance tuning; enterprise class servers, medium to large-scale Windows server 2008/2012/2016/2019, Linux servers and VMware Vsphere environments; DNS, LDAP Directories, Web Servers, and standard networking protocols; data security, backup, recovery, and restart techniques with Windows and VMware ESXi required
• Extensive experience in Information Technology (IT) and Windows Server; experience with physical and logical concepts of Windows Server file structures; experience with standard networking protocols; experience with medium to large-scale Windows Server and/or VMWARE environments; experience with OS upgrades, patch installation and testing; experience with providing technical support; experience with scripting utilities (Powershell) to accomplish centralized tasks is required and experience with Windows Server scripting required
• Proficient in Linux (Debian and Redhat derivatives) and Windows Servers
• Knowledge of AWS and Azure Cloud Infrastructure management is highly desirable
• DEVOPS experience is a big plus (Tools like TeamCity, Octopus, Jenkins etc.)
• Advanced knowledge of how services work: Apache, Nginx, MySQL, Postfix, Bind, etc.
• Experience with Monitoring and Metrics systems (PRTG, Cacti, Prometheus, etc.)
• Experience with virtualization and containerization (VMware, Hyper-V, OpenStack, Kubernetes, etc.)
• Experience with server hardware setup, management and maintenance
• Experience with Microsoft System Center Datacenter products
• Familiarity with SAN and Storage Systems
• Familiarity with software-defined systems
• Familiarity with high availability and load balancing
• Familiarity with Load balancer systems (F5, Nginx Enterprise, etc.)
• Excellent oral and written skills in English
• Strong analytical, problem solving and estimating skills
• Competent in teamwork and time management

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Manage, monitor, analyze and maintain Windows/Linux servers and virtualization systems
• Manage, monitor, analyze and maintain cloud infrastructure on both AWS and Azure.
• Installing and configuring an operating system, planning infrastructure capacity, improving performance and ensuring daily operations are carried out
• Installing physical and virtual servers, storage systems
• Maintain backup and restore operations of storage systems integrated with SAN / NAS infrastructures or servers
• Monitor and maintain the enterprise class disk storage arrays
• Performing operations such as monitoring servers, performance monitoring, creating, editing, managing alarms in monitoring tools, user management and parsing user alarms
• Ensuring the continuity of hardware infrastructure, operating systems, applications and containers in a way that will provide uninterrupted service
• Interface with system users and vendor support personnel to resolve software/hardware problems
• Develop and maintain recovery strategies and procedures. Ensure security of computing environments. Keep abreast of new features and issues to aid systems staff in patch management. Contribute to identifying and fulfilling daily, weekly and monthly goals of the Engineering unit. Identify and incorporate where applicable latest techniques and trends in Windows / VMWARE platforms. Set up and manage DR hardware/software environments
• Install and test operating system patches and upgrades using proper change management procedures. Provide documentation of operating system patches and upgrades and work with other system administrators to coordinate this support
• Provide support to out of scope enterprise applications: Microsoft 365, GSuite. Work with the vendors to resolve problems.
• Communicate with vendors and business owners about enhancements and updates as needed
• Perform other systems management tasks as assigned
