QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

1. Introduction

The Singapore Embassy in Ankara is hiring a full-time Interpreter. Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Mission, the primary role of the Interpreter will be as follows:


- Provide accurate simultaneous interpretation from Turkish language to English language, and vice-versa, for official meetings, events, visits and other official activities;
- Provide accurate translation of written content from Turkish language to English language , and vice-versa; and
- Provide interpretation and translation duties in support of official visits outside Ankara.

In addition, the Interpreter will also carry out the following:

- Monitor and provide timely updates from media and official sources;
- Assist with the maintenance of databases and drafting of official correspondences;and
- Carry out administrative duties in support of the planning or hosting of meetings, events, visits and other official activities.

2. Requirements

2.1 Qualifications and Experience

- Interpretation and translation certification is required (Please note: This can include either a Bachelor’s degree program, a minor in interpretation or an equivalent program that is certified and recognised internationally or in Turkey.)
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred in either Translation and Interpretation, English Language, Journalism, Mass Communication, Economics or Political Science
- One year of relevant working experience is preferred
- Excellent proficiency in Speaking/Reading/Writing for English and Turkish languages is required (Please note: Language proficiency will be tested)

2.2 Skills

- Able to provide simultaneous interpretation between Turkish and English languages
- Have mastery of professional terminology (e.g., political, economic, military, cultural, social media) in both English and Turkish languages and a competent understanding of Turkish politics and society
- Able to process information effectively and provide analysis on developments in Turkey
- Competent IT skills in Microsoft Office
- Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram

2.3 Other Requirements

- Able to travel overnight with the Embassy’s diplomatic staff for official visits outside of Ankara
- Able to support the Embassy after working hours, when required
- Legal status to reside and work in Turkey

3. Salary and Benefits

3.1 Salary

- Starting gross monthly salary of between TRY 5,670 to TRY 6,170 (Please note: 15% would be deducted from the employee’s monthly salary as personal social security contribution.)
- Annual salary increment

3.2 Bonuses

- Annual 13th Month Bonus (1 month)
- Annual Performance Bonus depending on performance (up to 2.5 months)
- Annual Variable Component Bonuses, depending on Singapore’s economic performance for year of review (up to 0.5 month)

(Please note that annual bonuses will range between a guaranteed 1 month salary, to a maximum of 3 months’ salary.)

3.3 Other Remunerations and Benefits

- Overtime allowances
- Daily allowances for official visits outside of Ankara
- Employer’s contribution to employee’s social security
- Annual vacation leave, starting from 14 working days
- Medical leave, in line with local laws
- Training opportunities for professional development
