Climate Change Policy Adviser

The British Embassy in Ankara is part of a world-wide network representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is now looking to hire a Climate Change Policy Adviser to contribute to British Embassy work to combat Climate Change, including diplomatic action to support delivery of the 26th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26) in December 2020.

Main responsibilities will include:

• To support implementation of the British Embassy’s climate strategy for Turkey, working with economic, political, prosperity and communications colleagues. This will include policy and project delivery aligned with COP26 objectives that supports long-term decarbonisation, and resilience & adaptation objectives in Turkey, which may include clean growth, energy transition, transport and industrial decarbonisation, nature-based solutions and green finance;
• To support the Turkey Network Climate Change Working Group and Whitehall colleagues on engagement with Turkey, through reporting on developments in Turkey and activities;
• To liaise with officials in the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other relevant ministries on policy and operational elements of delivering COP26;
• To assist the Turkey Network Climate Change Working Group engagement with non-Government actors, through stakeholder mapping and building working level contacts in sub-national authorities (cities, states), representatives of businesses, and civil society;
• To support Ministerial and official visits from the UK related to COP26 and climate events in Turkey .This could include organising visit agendas and supporting events as required;
• To hold a corporate responsibility objective (such as on Learning and Development, Reward & Recognition, Wellbeing or Tech Overhaul) which contributes to the wider corporate agenda of the Turkey Network.

This is a full-time contract for 2 years, for 5 working days (36.25 hours net) per week.

The monthly salary for this position is 2,602.41 USD gross B3 level. Please note that staff members are responsible for paying any income tax required by local law.

All applicants should have the right to live and work in Turkey. The British Embassy in Ankara does not sponsor for work permits.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background check, security clearance and a probation period of 2 months.
