We are looking for a highly motivated Specialist Breeding - Cucumber in Antalya to become an important member of a multidisciplinary team to join and further develop our ambition!

Your Job

·       As our new colleague in Specialist Breeding - Cucumber you are responsible to give direction to the breeding program under the supervision and in cooperation with the Breeder to guide the development of new varieties following the strategy of the company allowing a short time-to-market introduction of successful varieties.

Major Accountabilities

·       Assist and support the Breeder in optimizing the efficiency and output of the breeding program by designing and implementing new technologies and breeding methods to ensure a constant flow of commercially successful varieties.

·       Design, evaluate and formulate with the Breeder the short-term breeding plan, the work process and performance by means of drawing up trial data in filing system, preparing summary reports, give feedback, make proposals, and draw conclusions about the breeding program. Together with the Breeder, fill the budget/detail planforms for the respective breeding segments. Organize and hire interns or seasonal contract workers for screening and complete screening contracts with growers to be following company regulations.

·       Autonomously design, and plan, implement, execute, evaluate, analyze, interpret, and document breeding trials, experiments, and screenings in line with the breeding plan, statistical guidelines, and QA procedures.

·       Develop good understand of germplasm and use this knowledge to suggests hybrid selection for various and/or specific segments and regions as well as provide feedback to the breeder about potential new source of traits. Have a good understanding of the hybrid profile and use this knowledge in the evaluation of the hybrids in various regions. Support the breeder during the Elevation Meetings of varieties to optimize the efficiency and output of the breeding program. Work extensively in all regions within the country and/or internationally.

·       Manage and execute the increase and maintenance of excellent Foundation seed, Stock Seed and/or Production departments to ensure the availability of the quantity and quality of Basic stock seeds.

·       Permanent communication with the breeder. Coordinate and communicate the breeding program activities to the technicians and specialists in breeding, farms, labs and research and provide them with technical advice to meet agreed standards. Maintain intensive communication with PD team. Cooperate with growers to ensure an optimal performance of our screenings/experiments conducted on their fields and greenhouses.

·       Set up of breeding experiments and hybrid screenings according to procedures/guidelines and Design of Experiment tools to make the right decisions. Foundation seed with excellent genetic quality. Correct quality data to support decisions on lines, plants, varieties. Correct quality & quantity of output of breeding program, i.e. commercially successful varieties. Correct storage of all breeding data in right data systems

Your Profile

·       MSc degree in Plant Breeding, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Science, Plant Physiology or BSc with min 3 years of applicable experience in similar role.

·       Knowledge in horticulture or agronomy and Plant Genetics

·       Quality of phenotyping in all stages of breeding, including screening;

·       Successful implementation of new technology and breeding methods;

·       Assist in realization of crossing programs, both breeding crosses & hybrid crosses;

·       Organization and precision of data management.
