Job Description:
Within a multi-disciplinary team you will work as a designer for Li-Ion Battery Packs with a focus on safety and reliability objectives for development of functionally safe lithium ion battery systems.
Your Role:
- Design mechanical components of the battery systems.
- Develop designs meeting required mechanical, electrical, and thermal specifications unique to the lithium ion battery system.
- Develop mechanical parts (cell-module-pack, cooling/heating systems, etc.) for battery systems with a start-to-finish ownership – from requirements to design, development, verification, and prototype manufacturing
- Cell holder, module & pack design
- Battery Junction box electromechanical design
- Cooling/heating system design
- Structural and thermal analysis
- Analyze test data and reports to determine if the design meets functional and performance requirements
- Troubleshoot and help root cause any issues that occur in the prototype line
- Utilize light-weight materials and clever packaging solutions to reduce weight.
- Preparing bill of material (BOM)
- Perform hand calculations and first principle analysis of designs followed by optimization in FEA software packages.
- Communicating and managing the subcontractors, together with purchasing & project management team.
- Build and test your own designs to ensure first articles meet functional requirements.
- Work with the test, integration and quality teams to ensure performance requirements are met at both the bench and system levels.
- Participating in design reviews to ensure cross functional alignment and solicit feedback.
Must Qualifications:
- Degree (BSc, MSc, PhD) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years’ experience in mechanical design.
- Understanding of structural design, vibration and thermal management.
- Strong knowledge at least one 3D Cad program. (Preferred Solidworks)
- Knowledge with FEA programs.
- Hands on experience building prototypes.
- Professional working proficiency for English.
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with Battery System Design.
· Understanding the fundamentals of electricity and li-ion technology.
- Experience with MIL-STD-810H, DO-160G, DO-311A, R100 standards and qualification tests.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Team player, confident in technical discussions, ability to organize and “get things done”.
- Structured way of working, high sense of responsibility, Hands-On attitude.
