Petek has been producing fine leather goods for over 160 years. The company’s roots go back to the year 1855, when a family of saddle craftsmen for the Ottoman imperial army opened a workshop in a small town in Macedonia. In later years, the family business established itself in Istanbul, a diverse multicultural city full of colour and character, which had served as the capital to the Ottoman empire. In Istanbul, the company chose the name Petek, which translates as ‘honeycomb’, symbolizing the craft of the hardworking honeybee. Akin to a beehive, the Petek family company runs every part of the business, including manufacturing, from under a single roof. The expertise of the imperial leather craftsmen has been passed down the family for 5 generations.
