QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB DESCRIPTION

Qualifications / Requirements
 
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, or an appropriate engineering discipline or equivalent, and at least 7+ years of relevant experience in positions of progressive responsibility in Construction Project Management, with knowledge of construction systems and materials – staying current with newer construction materials and methods.
  • Strong detail, deadline, and goal orientation, with the ability to motivate, coordinate and execute teamwork.
  • High integrity and innovation, and exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are required.
  • Strong negotiating skills and ability to represent the Company’s interests while providing client satisfaction.
  • Must have the ability to manage, plan, and track successfully multiple projects in various phases of execution, with high technical Engineering content.  The number of parallel projects depends on timing, size, and complexity.
  • Ability to comprehend contracts, specifications, schedules, and drawings.
  • Knowledge of Windows and MS Office systems along with MS Project or equivalent scheduling software.
  • In addition to normal physical exertions in a job-site environment, individual should have above average walking, climbing, lifting and balancing skills.
  • Position requires being based at a Novum facility and may involve substantial travel.

Authority, Scope and Basic Function
 
Overall management of a team which includes Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, Engineers and Detailers and Field Coordinators with responsibility for performing multiple parallel projects.  Manages key projects directly.  Take overall process and project responsibility to manage projects assigned to the team post-sale through project close-out. Develop and maintain a team environment to deliver planning, engineering, scheduling, purchasing, logistics, and installation activities relative to each project, while keeping Senior Management informed of progress and key events.  Assigned projects will vary in size, complexity, and location requiring significant expertise and risk management capability. Lead the designated project team and develop, manage, and control budgets and timelines.  Maintain and control project schedules, co-ordinate the work of internal resources, manage the performance of Novum subcontractors and material suppliers, while meeting Company established margins and quality standards using professional, ethical, and safe practices to successfully complete projects consistent with the contracted intent and to client satisfaction.
 
Essential Duties and Principal Responsibilities
 
  • Review, comprehend, and execute the scope of works and contractual requirements from the plans, drawings, specifications, contract documents, sales file, and all other pertinent documentation.  Deliver the project to design/engineering intent, codes, load requirements and special safety or environmental issues relative to the project.
  • Monitor Novum performance in compliance to schedule and contracted scope and obligations, while profitably managing the project(s) from receipt to completion.
  • Communicate with client all issues in regards to structural integrity and physical fit data in relation to the project’s structural boundary and ensure that engineering requirements are satisfied in field execution.
  • Be responsible for timely purchasing of goods and services which are the responsibility of the Team.  Identify and prequalify new vendors. Ensure good value is obtained in the buying process and that Purchase Orders are accurately written with risks minimized.  
  • Proactively manage vendors and subcontractors for compliance to schedules, scope and quality.
  • Visit clients and site for monitoring, and meetings as required.
  • Establish, update, monitor, and communicate project schedules to ensure compliance and timely completion.
  • Oversee and direct team on client communication as the lead client interface for the Team. Prepare/organize accurate and timely RFI’s, submissions, billings, substitutions, claims and counterclaims.  Ensure clear communications both internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with and provide oversight and coordination to Production and other team members to ensure appropriateness, timeliness, quantities, quality and accuracy of materials and fabricated parts.  Accurately and timely communicate internal discrepancies. Organize regular team meetings.
  • Ensure project Safety and Quality Assurance at every phase of the project’s planning and execution.  Administer and reinforce Novum’s Safety Policy both internally and externally.
  • Work with Project Director to negotiate, administer, and execute contract and subcontract agreements required for the project execution ensuring pass through of Novum’s project contract conditions.
  • Expediently resolve disputes or problems to avoid excessive costs and claims.  Accurately document any disputes or claims and properly protect the Company assets and interests.  Keep Senior Management informed of critical items.
  • Take financial responsibility and accountability for the assigned project(s) and provide monthly reporting as required with more frequent updates on critical milestones.  Monthly update the Job Projection Reports (JPR) in conjunction with team members.
  • Review, create, and monitor, as necessary, change order requests with appropriate pricing and negotiate change orders favorable to the Company.
  • Ensure project billings are accurate and timely and that receivables are collected promptly throughout the project, establishing a job positive cash flow wherever possible.  Work with Project Accountants, as needed, to prepare waivers and billing documentation to ensure timely receipt of funds.
  • At project completion, close out the project(s) per contract requirements and evaluate / present results of execution (TM3) compared to original schedule and budget.
  • Participate, when applicable, in the sales process on projects.
  • Prepare documents for Team Review Meetings with Senior Management monthly or as requested.
  • Provide early identification of projects with potential risk or financial problem and report to Director of Project Management promptly.
  • Follow company policies and processes.  Recommend improvements to Supervisor.
 
Additional Ongoing Responsibilities
 
  • Follow and uphold all Company policies and procedures, safety, integrity, and quality standards. Ensure that important information learned and technical enhancements and useful data, either produced internally or vendor-supplied, contribute to Company know-how and the experience database of Novum Structures. Communicate this information formally and informally in meetings and in collaborative activities with other Managers and team members.
  • Assume proactive responsibility for mentoring, coaching, skill development, and daily oversight of the team. Provide constructive input and advice in relation to performance and professional development of individual team members and others engaged in the execution of a project.
  • Identify, engage and coordinate all relevant resources (internal and external) in order to deliver a completed project which meets or exceeds expectations (both internal and external).
  • Complete other assignments as requested.
